Red Wine

Red WineIf you are wondering, red wine is well…….red, but why? Red wine derives its color from a vast assortment of grapes encompassing varieties that are deep purple, reddish and even a magnificent blue on the color card. All accolades for red wine’s color spectrum can be attributed to the grapes skin and the length of time the skin’s pigmentation is in contact with the juice. Red wine is available in a boastful variety of 50 kinds that consistently manifest themselves in today’s wine market worldwide. Red wine is one of the most popular wine varieties and its type is determined in accordance to the area in where it is prepared and the grape variety used as well.

Red wine shimmers exhibiting its true colors when poured and sipped from a wine glass with sufficient foot space and room. Rather contrary to a slim necked champagne flute glass, red wine is best enjoyed when sipped out of an oval or egg-shaped bowl that converges slightly on the top. On a serving note, red wine tastes its ultimate when served at an apt temperature between 60-65 degrees. If served when overtly warm, the taste of alcohol will be evident and if served when too chilled, its scale will veer towards bitterness. A few of the most standard and widely consumed red wines include syrah, cabernet and zinfandel and its taste is entirely determined by the grape variety. Syrah also nicknamed as Shiraz is best served with beef and meat and popularly found in France’s Rhone valley and Australia. Rooted with a deep, dark red color, this variety of red wine exudes an exotic aroma. Tagged as one of the most coveted varieties of wine, Cabernet undergoes oak treatment and is useful in the cure of cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The world’s most versatile grape derived wine and exclusively available only in California, the Zinfandel wine plays truant with taste buds when served with pasta and pizza.

Recent studies indicate that consuming one glass of red wine daily prevents cardiovascular problems and cancer. It is further said that the French red wine is far ore beneficial in terms of health since it carries antioxidants in higher levels. Even though researchers have proved health benefits on the consumption of red wine, it is best recommended to maintain a moderate intake, a glass for women and two for men.
